On Sunday, music buffs of Vijayawada had a nice time at Tummalapallivari Kshetrayya Kalakshetram when the city's popular music band Mayur Orchestra celebrated its silver jubilee. Led by Mohammad Khaja, the band churned out popular Telugu and Hindi numbers.
For Mohammad, it was a day to remember and cherish, as his 25 years of dedicated service towards promotion of music in and around Vijayawada was appreciated by one and all.The event began with Rasool rendering Vedam... (Saagarasangamam), which made the audience riveted to their seats, as he crooned along with Satyavani. Songs such as Maate Mantramu... (Seethakokachiluka), Sundaramu Sundaramu... (Amavaasya Chandrudu), Punya Bhoomi... (Major Chandrakanth), Dekha Ek Khwab... (Silsila) were well received.
However, the song of the day was Mile Sur Mera Tumhara..., the national integration song. Much to the delight of the audience, all the singers sang in one voice. "We selected the song as it reflects the diversified culture of our country. We practised hard to do justice to the song," said Mohammad.
Other numbers included from Hum Kisise Kam Nahin... and Chand Mera Dil. Mohammad rendered the high-pitch songs Mera Desh Ki Dharti... (Upkar) and Jum Bara Bar... (5 Rifles) with ιlan. Prakash and Sunil (both on the keyboards), Shyam (guitar), Ramana (pads), Chitti and Srinu (tabla) extended excellent support. The baritone voice of compeer Chandrasekhar added a dash of novelty to the show.
At the end of the show, Mohammad gave away Rs. 5,000 each to Sunanda, Sanjeeva Rao, Babu Rao, Hussain Bhai (all singers) and Raju (drummer) in recognition of their contribution to the field of music.
