Celebrating dance

World Dance Day was recently celebrated in Vizag.

Vizag Dancers' Society commemorated World Dance Day recently.World Dance day is the day on which the great dance reformer Jean Georges Noverre was born in 1727 and brought in marked renaissance to the art. The society organised discerning talks coupled with demonstrations in the morning and a grand show of dance recitals in the afternoon, combined with evening sessions in Kalabharati, Visakhapatnam.Enlightening talks, replete with thoughtfully structured demonstrations by doyens of Kuchipudi tradition, Pasumarti Seetharamaiah on the role of Davvarikas and symbolic presentation of their attributes in dance ballets, Tekumalla Shyamala on the characteristic way and the features and attributes of the Ashtavidha Nayikas wereaesthetically revealed in solo and dance dramas with costume and make-up. A.B. Balakondala Rao individually and jointly with Seetharamaih on the presentation of padams and utility value of conducting such demonstrative talks and lastly post-graduate student of dance, AU Deptartment of Music who happens to be a medico also on therapeutic value of dance in the control of diabetic and cardiac problems, marked the morning session. The commemoration was inaugurated by the chief patron of the society S.Vijaya Kumar of Vijay Nirman Co. Ltd.Solo and group dances presented next by the pupils of Nrutyavardhini Natyalaya, Bharatiya Kalaasadan, Sarada Music and Dance Academy and T.S. Kalaasamithi delighted all alike.

The meeting held in the evening with the society's founder president K.V. Ramana Rao in the chair, guests of honour, District Tourism and Cultural Committee's Chairman Bhavaraju Konamraju and Vijaya Kumar felicitated all those who delivered talks in the morning besides Vikram Goud who exquisitely compered the entire show. V.V.S. Jagannadha Rao, Y. Hanumantha Rao and the Principal of the Kuchipudi Kalakshetra Harirama Murthy who with their soulful involvement got the show meticulously executed as per schedule with acumen.

Aesthetic showcasing of heart-warming talent in the form of solo and group dances presented with felicitous charm by the pupils of Natyaravali Music and Dance Academy, Kuchipudi Kalaakendra of Balakondala Rao, Rishi Gurukul Vidyalaya of Tulasi Das, Natyakalamandali and Kuchipudi Kalakshetra (an offshoot of Vempati's Art Academy at Chennai) in particular by Swarnalatha and Subbaraju provided a splendid finale.
