Films this weekend

Films for Freedom will screen “Dirty Laundry” directed by Sanjeev Chatterjee today at 6.30 p.m. at Centre for Film and Drama (CFD), 5th Floor, Sona Towers, Millers Road. The film traces South Africans of Indian origin as they continue the quest to define themselves and who they are. “Dirty Laundry” is a travel essay and historical journey that offers a glimpse of this struggle for self-definition and cultural identity in today’s world. On Satu rday, May 12, is “Continuous Journey”, directed by Ali Kazimi at the same time and venue. This multilayered film essay interweaves photographs, archival newsreels, home movies and official documents. On May 13, “The Legend of Fat Mama” directed by Rafeeq Ellias will be screened. This is a bittersweet story of the Chinese community in Calcutta. Screenings will be open to members only. So if you are not one, you need to go in early to register.
