Thottotsavam at Kancheepuram

The Thottotsavam of Varadaraja of Kanchi was recently held to bring down the temperature. The Lord was taken out in a procession along with two Nachiars in golden palanquin followed by Sri Vishwaksenar amidst the chanting of Adhyapakam and Veda parayanam.

In the afternoon, the Lord was anointed with saffron paste and adorned with new vastrams.

At 7 p.m., the Lord was taken out in a procession around the mantap. This was followed by Oonjal Seva and Tiruvaradanam.

On the next day, the Lord was adorned with flowers and taken out in a procession amidst the chanting of Vedanta Desika’s slokas. The Tatacharyas were honoured followed by Veda parayanam.

The deites were taken back to the respective shrines after the exchange of garlands between Lord Varadaraja and Andal. The festival concluded with the Lord being taken atop the hill.
