With a thriller twist

S.R.ASHOK KUMAR

Vasanth’s venture has three main characters but they do not make a love triangle.

All about middle class: Sathum Podaathey

It was the city’s outskirts and director Vasanth was giving instructions to Prithviraj and Padmapriya about the scene.

The shot over, he took a break to talk about Kaivallya Entertainment’s “Sathum Podaathey.”

“The story revolves around three persons — Prithiviraj, Padmapriya and Nithin Sathya, all of them simple and down-to-earth. Suhasini does an important role and the film features Nasser too. Actor Ragav belongs to our unit,” explained Vasanth.

Is it the familiar love triangle? No, says the director.

“I have told a Shakespearean tale in a Hitchcock way. The theme is contemporary and relevant.

“Everybody has a role to play and all the actors have done an excellent job,” he continued.

Huge problem

But what is the story? “It is about a huge problem faced by a middle class family, which comes out of it with flying colours,” Vasanth is also in charge of story, screenplay and dialogue. Director Vasanth’s earlier films Rhythm and Appu had P.S.Vinodh behind the camera. But in this film he has used the services of Vinodh’s assistant Dinesh. Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored the music. Adnan Samy has sung a number.

Actor Prithiviraj is optimistic about the result. “The story is good and also the script. There is no reason why the film should not be a box-office hit,” he said.

Padmapriya said that she accepted the film only after she was convinced about the scope of her character.

Happy to get a big role, Nithin Sathya suid, “I want to prove that I am capable of working in main roles. This film will be another good opening for me”.

C. Shankar and R.S.Senthil Kumar have produced the film.
