Stargazing

MALATHI RANGARAJAN

The next crown

The audio release of Ajit’s next film, ‘Kreedam,’ is to be held on June 1. After shooting a song sequence with Ajit and Trisha at various locations in Rajahmundry and Visakhapatnam, the unit moved to Vandi Periyaar and Alleppey to can another duet. The film is ready and the makers are planning a June release. Thiru is the cinematographer and G.V. Prakash, the composer. An interesting aspect is that Na. Muthukumar who is known to us as a lyricist, dons the garb of dialogue writer toowith ‘Kreedam.’

From the lion’s den

‘Singakutti’ will be the debut film of Sivaji Ganesan’s grandson and Ramkumar’s son, Sivaji. For the past four years the young Sivaji has been training in dance, stunts and the like to make it in cinema. A. Venkatesh who is a name to reckon with on the commercial circuit, is the director of ‘Singakutti.’ Recently a song sequence with Sivaji and 25 models from Mumbai was shot on an extravagant set erected at Chennai’s Film City. The search for the heroine is on, and in all probability it would be a Mumbai face. Interestingly, Sripriya enters the big screen after quite a while, for a guest appearance in ‘Singakutti.’

Interesting cast

The shooting of the heroine oriented film ‘Dhanam,’ is going on at a hectic pace in Hyderabad. After a 30-day stint there, the unit returns to Chennai next month for the rest of the shoot. Sangeetha plays the title role in ‘Dhanam,’ with which G. Shiva debuts as writer-director of the film. And besides other actors, TV actor Prem (of ‘Jodi No.1’ fame) is also doing a significant role in ‘Dhanam.’ Prem was seen on the big screen in Kalaignar’s ‘Kannamma.’

Making a point

Mimicry shows on satellite channels are dime a dozen. And most of them who appear on the programmes seem to have perfected the art. So excellent are their imitations! Generally, heroes are the targets. From MGR and Sivaji Ganesan to Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, none is spared. The observation reminds you of your conversation with Prashanth, sometime ago. “Yeah, I’ve thought about it often too. As far as I know I’ve never been mimicked,” he had smiled. Now you begin to wonder too!
