Vocal recital by K. Lahari, winner of many a laurel like the ragam, tanam and pallavi competition conducted by the Madras Music Academy, marked the commemoration of the 27th anniversary of Sangeetha Janakulam in Kalabharathi last Saturday.
Grand daughter of Sastry and daughter-disciple of Saraswathi (noted vocalist), Lahari got off to an efficacious start rendering Balakanakamayachela (Atana). Sustaining the same import of ‘Sangeetha Sahithyanubhavam’ til
l the end, she rendered Enduboyera (Dhanyasi), Neevallagunadoshamemi (Kapi), Emaanatichithivo (Sahana), Varalandukommani (Ghoorjhari), all Thyagaraja compositions, and Srikanthimathim (Hymavathi) of Dikshithar. Her expression of ‘manodharma’ especially negotiating ‘alapana’ and swaram in Kapi and along with ‘neravu’ and ‘swaram’ in Ragamalika in Srikanthimathim w
ent aesthetically invigorating and discerningly elaborating the ‘Sahithyabhava’. M. Satyanarayana Sarma on violin and M. Sridhar on mridangam lent excellent support.Guests of honour, chairman of the world teachers trust, K. Parvathikumar and Mihira editor, M.R.L. Rao felicitated her.
