Back after the break

Prajwal goes to Europe after his fractured ankle heals while Vijay trains hard for Yuga

Mix it up Prajwal wants to try all kinds of roles

Prajwal, the only rising son among the fresh crop of youngsters is in bed with a fractured ankle. It happened during the shooting of a stunt sequence in Munnar. When asked if the fracture was because of over enthusiasm, the youngster laughed and said , the injury was due to “a little miscalculation.” Prajwal didn’t realise he had fractured his leg as the local doctor had dismissed it as nothing serious. Prajwal had even done some dancing and another stunt scene before his personal physician saw the swelling and was aghast. The budding star is doing “Gange Bare Thunge Bare” directed by Sadhu Kokila and “Gelaya” which has the same young team associated with “Mungaaru Maley”. The former is a love story while the latter is a “serious entertainer” as Prajwal puts it. “Since I usually play a collegian in my films, I want to show I can do comedy as well as the serious stuff.” He has an item number with Yana Gupta and Prakash Raj has been approached for a special appearance. Ask him about producers having a tough time finding a heroine thanks to his boyish looks that he tries to hide behind a stubble and Prajwal says: “Sadhu Kokila found it difficult.” In fact director Mahesh Babu is in Mumbai looking for a suitable heroine for the film they are going to work on next. He’s studying BBM and the fairly long gap after “Sixer” is partly because of attendance problems and also waiting for the right script. “I wanted to avoid doing remakes which is in vogue now,” says Prajwal, who after recovering is off to Europe to shoot some songs.

Sorely missed

G. Srinivasan or GS as he was popularly known looked after the production and marketing headaches of Madras Talkies leaving his brother Mani Ratnam to concentrate on creativity. “Ask G.S,” was Mani’s comment regarding anything finan cial. G.S.’s untimely demise is a double blow for Mani who is just recovering from the death of his elder brother, G.V. G.S. was garrulous compared to the reticent Mani. G.S was a chartered accountant with GV films before Mani made him a partner in his production company. G.S. would call once in a while to find out the happenings in the Kannada film industry. Mani could probably find a professional replacement but the emotional void cannot be filled.

Ready for action

Vijay has started shooting for “Yuga” an action movie for which he has trained hard. There are some dangerous stunts involved in this film directed by Chandru, an associate of Soori. Vijay has also signed a film directed by S. Narayan and another by Kavita Lankesh. One hopes Kavita has something good in store after the disastrous “Tananam Tananam”. “Duniya” is marching towards the 100-day mark and is second only to “Mungaaru Maley” where collections are concerned. Vijay is sincere and hardworking. He has faced humiliation and rejection but his spirit is intact. Judicious selection of films will ensure a lengthy career.
