Music all the way

An absorbing music fete marked the jayanti celebrations.

The recital turned out to be a veritable feast of Carnatic music.

Soul-stirring violin solo by Mutnuri Srinivasa Narasimha Murty in the company of his wife Rama who played in tandem with him, marked the grand finale of the commemoration of the 114th birth anniversary of the 68th Peethadhipathi of Sri Kanchi Kamakot i Peetham, Paramacharya Sri Sri Chandrasekharendra Mahaswamy in Sankara Matham last Thursday. Vankayala Venkataramana Murty on mridangam and Mandapaka Ravi on kanjeera were also as scholarly as the main artiste with a silken touch on their instruments. The recital overall turned out to be a veritable feast of soul-soothing nuances of carnatic music. Pranamamyaham of Vasudevachar adorned with aalapana (Goula), elaboration of Akhilandeswari of Dixitar (Dvijavanthi) and Nidhichala Sukham aa of Thyagaraja (Kalyani) prefixed with absorbing ragam and tanam and concluded with scintillating swaram were the highlights.

The celebration of the jayanti with the blessings of the Kamakoti Peethadhipathi’s Sri Sri Jayendra and Vijayendra Saraswathis started with Ganapathi, Srisookta sahitha Mahalakshmi homams and Rudrabhishekam in the morning. After Tiruveedhi in the evening, Narasimha Murty, Ramana Murty and dolu player Gurivilli Durga Rao who achieved the distinction of being awarded top grade by Akashvani recently, were felicitated at a function with the president of the Matham Lanka Jagannadham in the chair. Noted connoisseurs of classical music like advocate Kandala Srinivasa Rao spoke on the occasion. Secretary of the Matham Susarla Suryanarayana Murty conducted the various events devoutly that marked the commemoration.
