Winning laurels Ananda Shankar Jayant performs at Thyagaraja Aradhana, Cleveland

Danseuse Ananda Shankar Jayant has recently returned from a six week tour of USA and Canada. She was invited to perform at the prestigious Thyagaraja Aradhana at Cleveland, Ohio.

The Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana, the largest Indian classical music festival in North America was first celebrated in 1978 and has now grown into a week long festival, with more than 2000 music and dance lovers from across North America attending every year. Over the last few years, dance has also found an important niche in this festival, featuring Padma Subramanian, Alarmelvalli and CV Chandrashekar among others.

This year, the 30th year of the festival, featured muscians Sudha Raghunathan, N. Ravikiran, Suguna Purushottham, P. Unni Krishnan, S. Soumya, T.M.Krishna, T.N. Seshagopalan and Aruna Sairam. Other dancers at the festival include Chitra Viswseswaran and Ananda Shankar Jayant, along side a dance workshop conducted by doyennes of dance Radha and Savithri Jagannadha Rao.

Dance presentation

Chaitanya Art Theatresis organising a dance presentation Natya Pravaham, a Bharatanatyam and classical fusion dance, by Rajeswari Sainath and her disciples. The programme is slated for June 12, 6:50 PM at Ravindra Bharati,.

Rajeswari Sainath will be presenting the fusion dance for the first time in the twin cities. This programme is a combination of traditional Bharatanatyam followed by a series of dance numbers performed to devotional songs set to modern music. The concert has been conceived by mridangam maestro guru Karaikkudi Mani.

Katyayani Arts is bringing out the second edition of Dancing Bells specially designed for children and authored by Dr. Nataraja Rama Krishna. Lasya Priya is organising the book releasing function on June 9. The event will take pla ce at Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao Auditorium, PS Telugu University, Nampally at 6.00pm
