‘Munshi’ sets a record

‘Munshi’ has completed 2,169 episodes without a break.

Trendsetter: ‘Munshi’ on Asianet.

‘Munshi’ and his team have made it to the Limca Book of Records. The five-minute sitcom on Asianet, based on current events, has completed 2,169 episodes and is still going strong.

The show, which began on September 11, 2000, soon earned a place in the hearts of viewers for its non-partisan approach. Like R.K. Laxman’s ‘common man,’ ‘Munshi’ airs the problems faced by ordinary denizens of Kerala. No topic is taboo for ‘Munshi’ and each issue is clothed in biting satire and humour.

K.P.S. Kurup appears as the wise Munshi who has the last word on each episode. Shreeju is the perpetual school student while Ayappan dons the role of Ayyappan. These three actors have been with the series right from the first episode. ‘Munshi,’ directed by Anil Banerji, has been a trendsetter that led to similar series on other channels as well. ‘Munshi’ is telecast daily at 7.35, 18.25 and 23.00.
