Notations for rare songs
The trinity has composed over 1,200 songs, but only about 500 are in vogue. VS Classics and Bharatiya Sangeetha Vaibhavam Trust have made an effort to record some of these songs for posterity. In ‘Apoorva Kriti Manjari’ (Book 1), 20 rare
songs have been notated in simple form by musicologist S. Balachander of Mumbai.
The book carries notation in both English and Tamil.
An audio recording of the contents has been appended to the book. Vocalist Vijayalakshmi Subramaniam has rendered the songs.
N. Murali, Managing Director, The Hindu, and president, Music Academy, will release the book at a function to be held at Raga Sudha Hall, Luz, on June 10, 6 p.m. Musicologist S. Rajam will receive the first copy.
The function will be followed by a concert by Brhaddvani group.
