Music and memories

An evening to mark the birth anniversary of Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar

The Renaissance Artists and Writers’ Association (RAWA), the cultural wing of the Ananda Marga Pracharak Samgh, organised a symposium on Prabhat Sangit recently. The symposium was followed by a cultural evening during which vocalists Soma Chakr avarthy Ghosh and Paresh Biswas performed. Singing three songs of Prabhat Sangit each, they were accompanied on the tabla by Ustad Jabbar Hussain, on the harmonium by Hemant Kumar, on the violin by Rashid Khan and on the synthesiser by Santosh Vajpeyi.

The devotional music was followed by a dance drama, “Tvam Mama Priya”. The production was directed by Keka Sinha and choreographed by Arindam Dey, Ajay Kadam and Ankur Ballal.

The event, organised to commemorate the 87th birth anniversary of Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar, founder of the Ananda Marga, was held at P.L. Despande Maharashtra Kala Academy.

At the seminar, Acharya Kisan Sood, RAWA Chairman, Mumbai, delivered the keynote address. Kumar Ketkar in his presidential speech spoke at length about the contribution made by Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar towards the uplift of human society. Dinkar Gangal noted that he was a multifaceted personality, while Suryabala said he contributed to the awakening of women. Sanjeev Sabade spoke on the genre of music that has been given the name Prabhat Sangit.

The organisation also felicitated Kumar Ketkar for excellence in journalism. He was presented a shawl, a sriphal, a citation and a memento by the leading lights of the organisation, including RAWA chairman Kisan Sood.
