In memoriam

Manapragada Narasimha Murthy was remembered on his anniversary.

Paying tribute At the CD launch.

Think of a few folk songs like Vallari Baboi, Etiketam patti or Mama Nagulo.. You get a picture before you of the famous singer of these folk songs, Manapragada Narasimha Murthy standing before us playing the dappu. In this field of folk song rendition with true spirit and mood, Manapragada stood out. He also rendered some folk songs in films. Unfortunately he met with an untimely death even as he was rendering a famous folk song Mama Nagulo at in Gymkhana Grounds in a huge function. APSO (Amateur and Professional Singers Organisation) and FARMI (Folk Arts Research Music Institute) joined hands in holding his annual memorial function and then presenting an award, named after him, to another singer of repute. This time the choice for this Narasimha Murthy Memorial Award- 2007 was Chandra Teja, a versatile singer. The function, organised last week at Ravindra Bharati, was well attended by folk music enthusiasts and also some noted personalities. The programme was titled Vallari Baboi, a pallavi of a folk song he used to render. Satyendar a noted percussion instrumentalist was also felicitated.

This function was followed by a folk song rendition session, by Chandra Teja and Party. Chandra Teja is Carnatic musician basically but became well known for his film song shows and folk song renditions in All India Radio.

Almost all popular songs of Narasimha Murthy were rendered by them to a great response in the auditorium.Kodipipilla..Kodipilla, Deeni Sommemanina Tintina, Kodini Koyuduna, Gowramma, Yetiketampetti, Olammo Orinayano and so on figure d.
