The shoot of Lohitadas’ latest film ‘Nivedyam’ is going on at a feverish pitch at Olappamanna Mana, near Vellinezhi, in Palakkad.
A crucial scene involving ace actor Nedumudi Venu and debutant Ranjith is being shot in front of the sprawling house. Nedumudi, like in many of the other films he has worked with Lohitadas, has an important role in the film.
Says Nedumudi, who is waiting for the first shot after lunch break: “I have worked with Lohitadas in many films, including hits like ‘His Highness Abdulla’ and ‘Kamaladalam.’ In this film, I enact the role of an old priest in a temple owned by a Kovilakam that is in dire straits. Although the elderly priest’s health is declining, he wants to continue. That is when a young Namboothiri youth is appointed. He doesn’t know anything about mantras and rituals. The old priest gives him necessary training and entrusts him with the rituals of the temple while keeping a supervisory role for himself.”
Detailing the storyline of his film, Lohitadas says: “It is a romantic film that centres on the developments in an old Kovilakam whose members had once played progressive role in the locality and the temple associated with it. Like many other Tharavadus and Kovilakams, this also suffers from disintegration and consequent financial difficulties.”
Two new actors
Lohitadas has introduced two new actors in this film – the hero Vinu Mohan and the heroine Bhama.
“I wanted new faces for this film. Most of the actors are novices. Thespians Nedumudi Venu and Bharat Gopi (who plays the Thampuran of the Kovilakam) are the only senior artistes.” Nivedyam, incidentally, is the 57th film by Lohitadas who made his debut in 1987 with ‘Thaniyavarthanam.’
Vinu Mohan a graduate from from University College, is making his debut in ‘Nivedyam.’ Vinu plays the junior priest (Keezh Santhi) who is brought in to assist Nedumudi.
“Once the Keezh Santhi comes, the prospects of the temple brighten. The young priest attracts the attention of many young women, including the heroine Bhama. Eventually the youngsters fall in love,” narrates Vinu.
The film, produced under the banner of Touchwood Creations, is being shot at Olappamanna Mana and Alathur.
To be released by Lal Release, the film is slated to reach theatres on July 27. Sajan Kalathil wields the camera. Still photographer is Ajith V Shankar. Lyrics by Kaithapram, Bichu Thirumala and Kuttappan Mash have been composed by M. Jayachandran.
