Aani festival

Sri Bhakta Anjaneyar Temple, Kottivakkam, has organised a two-day annual Ani Moolam festival on June 29 and 30. Rituals will begin with Sri Venkatesa suprabatham at 6.30 a.m. on the first day, followed by Go Puja, abhishekams, alankarams and maha deeparadhanai. In the evening, Vijayamahaganapathy and Baktha Anjaneyar will be adorned with special fruits, coconut and vettrilai alankaram. J. Krishnaswami Iyengar will present a discourse on the Ramayana. Remembering MLV

MLV Cultural Trust is celebrating MLV’s birthday by organising music concerts on July 2 and 3 at Dakshinamurthy auditorium, R.K.Mutt Road, Mylapore. T.M.Krishna will give a concert on the first day and Neyveli Santhanagopalan on the second day.

Panchami concert

Sri Satguru Gana Nilayam has organised a special concert of T.V.Sankaranarayanan on July 5, 6.30 p.m. at SMR matriculation Higher Secondary School, Jothi Ramalingam St., West Mambalam. Nagai Muralidharan (violin), Srimushnam V. Raja Rao (mridangam) and S. Karthik (ghatam) will be the accompanists.

Styles underlined

Shakti Extratainment is conducting a Bhani festival on July 4 and 5 at the Narada Gana Sabha. It will be inaugurated by N. Ram, Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu, at 10 a.m. Film director K. Balachander presides. The festival will show case some of the most acclaimed styles and will feature top performers. Dance competition

Narada Gana Sabha Trust, Natyarangam, TTK Road, (Ph:24993201), will conduct Bharatanatyam competitions for various age groups, on three days in July. Here are the details: For children in the ages of eight – 12 (July 7, 9.30 a.m. – alarippu – five minutes); for age group 13 – 18 (July 8, 9.30 a.m. – varnam (opening trikala jathi & sanchari for pallavi) – seven minutes); ages 19 – 30 (July 14, 9.30 a.m. – sanchari – seven minutes).

Discourse

M.V.Anantha-padmanabhachariar will present discourses on ‘Divyadesa Vaibhavam’ and ‘Varadaraja Gunanubhavam’, June 30-July 6, 6.30 p.m. at the Mylapore Fine Arts Club.
