Thirucherai is one of the 108 Divya Desams known as ‘Pancha Sara Kshethram’ where Lord Vishnu is worshipped as ‘Sri Saranatha’ along with His five Consorts (Sri, Bhoomi, Neela, Mahalakshmi and Saranayaki).

In this place there is a shrine for Vedanta Desika, outside Sri Saranatha Perumal temple and is maintained by the Pattrachariar – acharya purusha family. On account of meagre income even daily rituals are being conducted with great difficulty.

The renovation of this shrine took place about 40 years ago. The temple is now in a dilapidated condition and requires attention. The estimate is over Rs. 5 lakhs and work can be completed with contributions from philanthropists. Donations may be sent in the form of cheque, DD or MO to R. Rangarajan, 262, North Street, Thirucherai – 612605, Kumbakonam Taluk (Ph: 0435-2468025).
