In need of funds
Many villages in the coastal belt from Vedaranyam to Dhanushkodi are named after the characters in the Ramayana. One such village is Perugavazhndan in Tiruvarur district, about 25 km from Mannargudi on the Mannargudi-Muthupet Road. A unique feature o
f this village is that it has two temples dedicated to Rama – Pattabhirama and Kothandarama – built by King Raghunatha Nayak of Thanjavur.
Both the temples are now in a dilapidated state and need to be repaired. In fact, the Kothandaramaswami idols have been removed from its original temple and kept in Pattabhiramaswami temple for the past several decades.
Renovation is on at the Pattabhiramaswami temple and is expected to be completed in a few months. After this, both Pattabhiramar and Kothandaramar are expected to be installed at the same temple.
Srimad Ahobila Mutt has extensive wet lands in this village and with the blessings of the present pontiff Villivalam Narayana Yateendra Mahadesikan the work was taken up, with the co-operation of Veeravalli Srinivasa Desikacharya of Vaduvur. The samprokshanam is slated for the Tamil month of Aippasi (November) this year. Funds are needed not only for the repairs but also to create a corpus to conduct the daily pujas and cover the salary of the temple staff.
Donations may be sent to (in the name of): Sri Pattabhiraman Koil Tiruppani Committee (chairman – S. Ranganathan), Lakshmi Bhavanam, 126, First street, Mannargudi – 614 001 (ph: 04367-252170) or A.S.Estate, Agraharam, Perugavazhndan P.O. Mannargudi taluk, Pin – 614 105 (ph: 04367-274403).
