Vibrant and neat presentation
No notable cultural event took place during the months of April and May, thanks to the scorching heat.
Now cultural organisations have started reviving their activities.
Swarajhari Sabha presented a fine vocal concert by Popuri Gowrinath who hails from a musical family and is endowed with a deep and vibrant voice. He is an able singer.
The venue was Sri Sivaramakrishna Kshetram, a popular venue for music concerts.
Gowrinath made a bright start with Hamsadhvani varnam following it with Dikshitar’s Sidhi Vinayakam in shanmukhapriya which carried brief kalpana swaras. Next was Chakkani Rajamargamu (Thyagaraja kirtana) f
Sri Sankara Guruvaram in garudadhvani was rendered in proper tempo setting the mood for a ‘chowka kala keertana’.
The highlight in the concert was the excellent delineation of Reetigowla in which Gowrinath sang Nannu vidachi Kadalakura.
The raga brought out the raga bhava to the fullest extent.
The main item Etavunara Nilakada Neeku was detailed alapana and bhava laden niraval.
The keertana was finished with imaginative kalpana swaras which were followed by a thrilling tani by M. Lakshminarayana Raju (mridangam) and Master H. Raghu (morsing) of Muscat. Raghu is also proficient in playing almost all percussion instruments.
Gowrinath’s enjoyable concert came to a close with a tarangam and a javali.
Modumudi Sudhakar well known singer and secretary of Swarajhari announced that the 76th birth day of M. Balamuralikrishna would be celebrated by Swarajhari this month at Vijayawada on a grand scale and the veteran would be felicitated on the occasion.
