Explaining uniqueness of Mahabharata

Prof.Vedula Subrahmanya Sastry

Former A.U. Professor Acharya Sarvabhauma Vedula Subrahmanya Sastry delivered a lecture on ‘Mahabharata Paramardham’ for Visakha Music and dance Academy last Wednesday.

Vedula explained why and how Sage Vyasa stands universally hailed as a paragon of the syllogistic analogy between a creative poet and the creator of the universe as it gets ascertained in the sloka Apaare Kavya Samsaare Kavirevacha Praj aapathi; Yadhastasmai Rochathe Viswam Tadha Idham Parivartathe.

Explaining how and why the 18 cantos that constitute the epic poem stand grouped as Adipanchakam, Yuddha Shatkam and Santhisaptakam, he delved deep into the content of enlightenment on Dharma. He elaborated furthe r on the virtuous ways and means of understanding, practising and sustaining it sans any negligence towards one’s own duty (Karmayoga) as they get revealingly expatiated in the epic in the Santhisaptakam in particular.

The authoritative proclamation by Vyasa as it gets revealed in the sloka Dharmesaardhecha Kaamecha Mokshecha Bharatharshabha; Yadihaasti Thannanyatra Yennahaasti Nathatkwachith; the entirety of all possible events including their ra mifications along with their positive or otherwise impact collectively or individually on the import of the life patterns of all man kind and its purport, namely the nature of effort put in for the realisation of the Purushaardhas (Dharma, Ardha, Kaama and Moksha)stand exhaustively expounded in the epic. No wonder, besides being devoutly adored by us as Panchama Veda, it stands hailed all over the world for the uniqueness of the feature of universality that illustriously marks it, concluded Vedula amidst applause.
