Surabhi Mudgalkar and Dr. Ramakanth Katti of Hyderabad gave a pleasing vocal and flute concert at Kala Subba Rao Kala Vedika of Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha, Chikkadpally for the Music Lovers Association.
Surabhi, with her innate craving for perfection is currently training under U. Govind Rao, a well known teacher of vocal music. She began her concert with aalap of raag Bihag, followed by Vilambit Khayal with a ba
ndish Kaise Sukh Sohe set to ek taal and the Dhrut Khayal with Ab Hoon Laalan Main Ka in teen taal.
She displayed striking mastery over the ragas and excellent support of harmonium by P. Madhusudhan and Tabla by Sunil Mudgalkar rendered the concert quite impressive. She concluded with a Tarana in ek taal.
Dr. Ramakanth Katti, an ENT surgeon from Hyderabad presented on the flute extensive aalap in Maruva and then Vilambit in ek taal.
The unique blend of fluency and melody has been one of the main qualities of his presentation.
He is famous for a systematic improvisation in Gayaki style with exquisite tans.
Next raga chosen for the concert was Megh, wihich started off with a short aalap and Madhya laya in Japh taal. He was accompanied on the tabla by his brother Lakshmi Kanth Katti.
