Stargazing

Sentiment sells

"The story is the hero of the soon-to-be-released `Pasupathi C/O Rasakkapalayam,' says writer-director Selvabharati who has made three films with Vijay. But the lead player this time is Ranjith! "I'm very confident about my story and treatment. I wanted an actor who had no image and Ranjith fills the bill beautifully. It's a commercial product and I'm sure it'll sell. For the first time Ranjith has done some enjoyable comedy with Vivek in tow," he says. The heroine is Sindhu Dhulani. He's proud of the little known actor Savitri, who plays the pivotal role of a mother in `Pasupathi _' "She's done a good job. Even our CM who watched the film just a couple of days ago said the film ought to have been named `Amma.' The role impressed him so much."

All in a name

Known for his rather audacious titles (remember `Idu Dhaanda Police'?) Rajasekar returns to Tamil after quite a while in Telugu, with another film with a bolstering name _ `Odambu Eppadi Irukku.' Wife Jeevitha is the director and Rajasekar himself has penned the story and screenplay. `Evadante Naaku Enthi?' (an equally fiery name) is the Telugu original that's being remade in which Rajasekar plays an army man. Actor turned director Jeevitha had earlier remade Bala's `Sethu' with husband Rajasekar. Called `Seshu,' the film in Telugu, you hear, had done brisk business.

Animation arena

Vaithi, Varadhu, Vichchu and Venky are the main characters in the country’s first 3-D animation film with 2K resolution, ‘Inimae Naanga Dhaan’ — V4’ made in Tamil.

It is also the first non mythological film in the genre. “Animation is an unexplored area here. And as Venky has enough experience in the field we ventured into it,” says producer Sridevi. The story, screenplay, animation and technical direction are her husband, Venky Baboo’s. “A 25-member team has slogged for a year and a half to create ‘V4.’ I’m glad that a Tamil film is the pioneer, though we’ll be taking it to other languages too,” Sridevi adds. What about voices? “Capable actors like Pandu, M.S.Bhasker and Maran have spoken and they suit the characters wonderfully,” she assures.

Blossoming career

`Thottaal Poo Malarum' must be special for ?lmmaker P. Vasu. After all it's his son Shakti who debuts as hero in the ?lm. As a young boy, however, Shakti had played a few roles in his father's ?lms. At the moment two songs with Shakti and heroine Gowri Munjal are being shot in Bangkok for 10 days. (`Thottaal's audio was released recently.) "On the ?rst couple of days my dialogue was just two or three lines. So things went off smoothly. It was on the third day of shoot that I saw my father as a director in action. The dialogue ran to two pages and he was furious when I couldn't get it right the ?rst time," says Shakti.
