Raghavendra re-visited?

MALATHI RANGARAJAN

Rajinikanth may play the role of a Raghavendra devotee in ‘Jadhagam.’

Rajinikanth

The ‘Sivaji’ celebrations have just begun to plateau out but buzz about Rajinikanth’s next is already on. Vijay, an erstwhile film PRO and an ardent devotee of Sri Raghavendra has penned the story of ‘Jadhagam,’ a film t o be made on the sage and savant. “I believe it’s an oracle that’s guiding me. Swami came in my dream. I sincerely feel I’ve been ordained to take up the project,” begins Vijay. He was asked to approach ‘Amman’ Sathyanathan, “who has written six books on Sri Raghavendra, and whose seventh is to be published soon.”

One meeting led smoothly to another and now things are poised at a stage where Rajinikanth has promised Vijay an audience in a few days from now, you hear.

Soon after the dream, Vijay thought he would make the film on a conservative budget. But again a ‘message’ from Mantralayam told him to meet Rajinikanth.

“I didn’t even think for a moment that a star of Rajini’s status could be approached for ‘Jadhagam.’ But I’ve realised that if Raghavendra wills anything can happen,” Vijay says. He senses your misgiving and clarifies: “Definitely we are not going to him with the role because he’s a devotee himself. It is the story of a Raghavendra follower all right, but it will be very different from the films made in the genre. In the first half of the film we plan to deal with the life of Raghavendra, while the second will revolve completely around the devotee. And we are proceeding with complete confidence that Rajini will agree to play the devotee’s role,” says Vijay. The rest of the cast will be decided only after getting the green signal from him. Again ‘Jadhagam’ will have nothing similar to the film ‘Sri Raghavendra,’ directed by Sp. Muthuraman released some years ago, in which Rajinikanth played the title role.

“The story of ‘Jadhagam’ is mine and a well-known cinematographer will make his debut as director.” Vijay stops on that suspenseful note.
