Movie fiesta

The Trivandrum International Film Festival will begin on July 27.



Oscar winner: ‘Marie Antoinette.’

It will be movies, movies and yet more movies at Kalabhavan Theatre as the Trivandrum International Film Festival is back with a bang from July 27.

If the World Cinema section has movies such as ‘Motorcycle Diaries,’ ‘Consultant Gardener’ and ‘Provoked’ on its list, Asian Cinema has ‘Missed Call,’ ‘Nital’ and ‘Drishtantham’ to name same, the Oscar series has movies like ‘United 93,’ ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,’ and ‘Crash.’

The focus this year will be on movies from Iran. ‘Mama’s Guest,’ ‘Love without Boundaries’ and ‘The Insane Flew Away’ will be a few of the movies screened in the section. The Retrospective has movies by Iranian director Alireza Raieesian. Popular films such as ‘Notebook,’ ‘Pokiri’ and ‘Omkara’ will be screened at Tagore Theatre.

The festival will be inaugurated by Adoor Gopalakrishnan at 5 p.m. on July 27. A Canadian film ‘Un Dimanche a Kigali’ (Just This Part is Worth It) is the inaugural film. The festival ends on August 2 with Sophia Coppola’s 2007 Oscar winner ‘Marie Antoinette.’
