The bold and the brash

‘Nazrani’ narrates the story of a rich planter whose comfortable life is threatened by certain incidents. VIJAY GEORGE

Tale of intrigues: Mammootty as David John, the protagonist in ‘Nazrani.’

The title of few films reveal the nature of the storyline. But ‘Nazrani’ is bound to tempt viewers to keep guessing about the genre and the settings of the film till they see the movie. The makers of the film, however, are tight-lipped about the exact storyline and prefer to reserve the suspense till the film is released.

The film is about a rich planter called David John, who lives life to the fullest. Mammootty is the hero in ‘Nazrani,’ which is directed by Joshiy and scripted by Ranjith.

The location for the day is a plush bungalow at Kakkanadu, Kochi, and things are happening at a frenetic pace inside the drawing room, where huge lights, wires and shooting equipment are being arranged. Joshiy goes through the script once again and gives directions to the crew.

Engrossing incidents

According to the director, “‘Nazrani’ is a family oriented film. It is linked together by some engrossing incidents.”

The curious onlookers go berserk when they catch a glimpse of Mammootty. His character is a rich and brash planter who is compelled to step out of his comfortable existence on account of certain circumstances. The film narrates how David meets the challenges without losing his cool.

The shot being filmed requires David to confront a powerful politician called Paul (Vijayaraghavan).

“Paul is the kind of politician who thrives in the days of coalition governance. He is ready to do anything to keep his image intact,” explains Vijayaraghavan.

The next shot is a close-up that shows Paul trying to conceal his feelings while listening to David’s banter. The shot is okayed in a single take.

The heroines

Vimala plays Sarah, who is in love with David. Muktha, who was recently seen in films such as ‘Thamarabharani’ and ‘Goal,’ dons the role of a medical student in the film.

The cast includes Bharat Gopi, KPAC Lalitha, Jagathy Sreekumar, Lalu Alex, Kalabhavan Mani, Biju Menon, Captain Raju and Arun.

In addition to Kochi, ‘Nazrani’ will be completed in such locations as Pala, Wagamon and Kuttikkanam. The film is scheduled for an Onam release. Lyrics by Anil Panachooran have been set to tune by Biji Bal. Stills are by Rajesh.

‘Nazrani’ is being produced under the banner of Horizon Entertainment.
