A delight in steps and gestures

P. SURYA RAO

A group dance shows the possibilities of mythical.

Quality programme Deepika Reddy

When artistes of high quality team up it is a treat for the rasikas. Sidhardha Kalapeetham of Vijayawada presented such a quality programme at Sidhardha Auditorium last week. Deepika Reddy of Hyderabad, an accomplished Kuchipudi da ncer and a choreographer is a disciple of maestro Vempati Chinna Satyam.

Geetanjali, a dance school run by Deepika Reddy, staged a Kuchipudi ballet titled Stree Trayam with excellent quality.

The script was written by Samavedam Shanmukha Sarma and set to music by Sweta Prasad who also lent her superb voice to enhance the effect of the ballet. The ballet Stree Trayam revolves round the three mythlogical characters, Sita, Draupadi and Savitri. All the three roles were played by Deepika with great artistic and aesthetic sense.

The supporting roles were played by Vedantam Venkatachalapathi (Ravana and Yamadharma Raja), D. Sudhir (Srirama and Nartaka), Mihira Paturi (Satyavanta and Nartaki), Sravya Reddy (Nartaki and Narada), Manjusri, Pooja Reddy, Sravya and Pragna.

The excellent music team consisting of Renuka Prasad (nattuvangam),

Sweta Prasad and K. Suryanarayana (vocal), Kolanka Saikumar (violin), Murali (flute) and Rajagopalacharya (mridangam) added quality to the effort of Deepika Reddy.

Deepika, with her deep study of the charac ters of Sita, Draupadi and Savitri amply succeeded in projecting the greatness of the three characters.
