Sampoorna Gita Jnana Yajnam on DD 4, Monday to Saturday, 21.30
‘Sampoorna Gita Jnana Yajnam,’ which was telecast on DD 4, is now being re-telecast in a revised version that has incorporated many new features. The original series ran continuously for 15 months, from April 14, 2006 to
July 9, 2007. The new series, which began the very next day, also occupies the same slot – 9.30 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays. The appeal of this programme lies in the fact that the teachings of the Gita is explained in a manner that is appreciated by both the layman and the scholar.
With a touch of humour
Swami Sandeep Chaitanya does that by relating anecdotes from everyday life, citing from the works of Sankaracharya, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Swami Vivekananda, Sree Narayana Guru, Mahatma Gandhi, Vinoba Bhave and the like, narrating stories from the epics and adding a sprinkling of humour throughout the episode.
Ace film-maker Shaji N. Karun has lent his guidance to the project. The ideas expressed in each episode have been given graphic representation through sketches and paintings by artists C.N. Karunakaran, Ajaya Kumar and Balamurali.
Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri, noted lyricist and musician, has undertaken the music direction. The line-up of well-known singers include Kaithapram, Bhavana Radhakrishnan, Deepankuran, Ajayan Namboothiri and Manjari.
“The focus here is not on the music. Rather, my effort has been to blend it with the musical quality in the speech and in the chanting,” says Kaithapram.
The title music, in raga Saraswathi is the creation of Deepankuran, Kaithapram’s son, who, himself is a singer and composer.
