Omar in India

The legendary Pakistani comedian Omar Shariff will now be seen on Indian television. Shariff, who became a household name with plays like “Bakra Qiston Pe” and “Budha Ghar Par Hai” has been roped in by Star One as a celebrity judge for the finals of “Great Indian Laughter Challenge”.

Omar is known for reviving the cultural scene in Karachi. Let’s see what he adds to the Indian scenario, where comedy is already the flavour of the season.

Folk appeal

This week on Sony’s “Indian Idol”, Ila Arun has been invited as the celebrity judge. And to keep the mood going, for the first time in this season Indian Idol contestants sing songs based on folk music from various regions. As if all the performances on stage were not enough, Ila Arun decided to get her back on Javed Akhtar for what he had put her through in a musical show they both judged not so long ago. So she insisted that Javed sahib take the stage with her and dance to her tune.

Play with Ravan!

After creating a serial on Ravan, now Zee TV in association with Zapak.com has come up with a Ravan game. Meant for the younger audience, the interactive video game is meant to entertain and educate the youngsters about Indian mythology. As for the serial the audience will be in for a surprise because they will show different shades of Ravan’s characters. It’s no longer about black and white!

Freedom Express

To mark 60 years of Indian independence, Star Plus is coming up with a special programme “Azaadi Express”.

To be telecast on Independence Day from 10.00am the show salutes the spirit of India. Hosted by Sajud Khan and Sarita Joshi, the programme will feature performances by Bollywood and television personalities including Govinda, Dia Mirza, Reitesh Deshmukh and Ejaz Khan.

Ajay Vidyasagar who looks after content and new media for the channel describes it as an entertaining, educative and informative event.
