Delightful dance recitals

Talent show Students of Kuchipudi Kalakshetra performing on stage.

Celebrating Gurupoornima, the students of Kuchipudi Kalaakshetra, an offshoot of the Kuchipudi Art Academy of Vempati China Satyam at Chennai, presenting items that mark the tradition, delighted the audience at Kalabharati last Monday.

Sponsored by former students of the institute, J.L. Kalpana, J. Sarada and V. Sai Sudha, it got off to a scintillating start with Vinayakakowtham in Mohana presented by Himabindu, Kavyasmruthi, Sumathi and Aparna. Young Ameya, Anuradha, Gangabhavani, Rachana, Raveena, Swetha, Swathi, Kavya, Prasoona and Kalyani presenting Vasantha Swarajhati and Laasya Tandavam of Siva and Parvathi with Subbaraju and Aparnaswathi in the roles, executed all intricacies of nritta, nritya and natya with felicitous charm. Solos, Palukutenelathalli (Abheri Khandachapu)and Marakathamanimayachela (Raagamalika) by K. Revathi and Rukmini Pravesa Daruvu by Himabindu were enthralling.

Mandookasabdam (Raagamalika Misrachapu) by Subbaraju and Sumathi followed by a thillana in Putrika by Kavyasmruthi, Himabindu, Sumathi and Aparnaswathi constituted the finale.

Expert nattuvangam was provided by the Principal of the institute Hariramamurty in the excellent company on mridangam by Kanthilal.

Evocative vocals by B. Varahalu in the company of K.V.S. Prasad on violin and Malleswara Rao on flute contributed to the grandeur.

Credits for make-up, constume and lighting were shared by K. Suryarao, Sudha and Perala Balamuralikrishna compered the programme.
