Remembering Ravi Verma

Ketan Mehta’s next magnum opus is based on the life of painter Raja Ravi Verma. Ketan, who will be directing this film, has titled it Colours of Passion in English and Rang Rasia in Hindi. To be produced by Deepa Sahi and Anand Mahendroo, the film has a cast that includes Randeep Hooda, Nandana Sen, Paresh Rawal and Deepti Nawal. Nandana, who will be playing Ravi Verma’s love interest, is ecstatic. Having heard about the painter in great detail from her father and Nobel Prize Winner Amartya Sen, she says the film will highlight lesser known facts about the painter.

Another inspired film?

Sanjay Leela Bhansali got all the appreciation for his film Black, until critics pointed out that the film was heavily inspired by Miracle Worker. His next film Saawariya too, according to reports, might be an 216;inspired’ flick. The film is said to deal with a story that cuts across three generations. Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor are the younger lot while Salman Khan and Rani Mukherjee are part of the second generation. Senior actors Zohra Sehgal and Begum Para are in the cast too. Reportedly, the film draws from the short story White Nights, penned by the Russian author Fyodor Dostovesky. The story is about a lonely man, a young girl and her lover.

Bhatts lie low for Dhokha

Mahesh Bhatt and his production house normally go out of their way to promote their new ventures. They’ve been rather low-profile about their next film, Dhokha. Directed by Pooja Bhatt, the story is about a suicide bomber and has model Muzammil Ibrahim and Tulip Joshi (of Matrubhoomi fame) in the lead. Pooja Bhatt’s favourite actor Gulshan Grover finds a place in the cast too. Trade circles have it that the Bhatts are awaiting the right time to promot e the film, which will release after Shah Rukh’s Chak De India and the multi-starrer Heyy Babyy.

Son rise

Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor are not the only star kids we’ll see on screen in a while. Anupam and Kirron Kher’s son Sikandar Kher is waiting in the wings. His debut film will be producer Sanjay Gupta’s Woodstock Vill a. Sikandar, it is said, is unperturbed by expectations that stem from having celebrity parents. Impressed by his onscreen persona, director J.P. Dutta is said to be considering Sikandar for a lead role in his next project. Papa Anupam Kher is grooming his son to take on the industry.
