M.L. NARASIMHAM

It’s time for romance and action for Brahmanandam.

In tune Brahmanandam and Mumaith Khan in the movie

As one steps into the central jail set at Ramoji Film City one is greeted with a husky voice singing, Desoddharaka Rajasekhara… Actors Mumaith Khan and Brahmanandam along with a group of dancers were spotted on location shoot ing for R.S. Films, Lakshmiputhrudu, a bilingual (Vambu Sandai in Tamil). The much successful Tamil director Raj Kapur makes his Telugu debut. “Udaykiran and Diya (of Asadhyudu fame) are the lead pair and Sathyaraj returns to Telugu films after a long hiatus in a central character. “Today we are filming a song on Brahmanandam and Mumaith,” informs producer Polisetty Rambabu.

Once the rehearsal was over, choreographer Nixon calls for the shot. The tape is played and Suchitra’s voice singing the Desoddharaka number set to tune by D. Iman reverberates. Suresh’s camera rolls and the actors start placing the movements. Mumaith looking hot in a revealing costume and Brahmanandam shedding his comedian image acts like any other popular commercial hero.” And Nixon reveals during the break. “I am presenting Brahmanandam like a hero and not as a comedian. It is a very commercial song. Mumaith Khan has a large fan following and I made the song look in such a way that it attracts both the mass and class audience. I am using only a small group of dancers drawn from Hyderabad and Mumbai. Yes… Mumaith looks more glamorous in this song.” Nixon has choreographed for about 50 films including Varsham (Ee Varsham Shakhigaa), Arya (Feel my love) and Bommarillu.

As the choreographer shouts “start, camera, action” the shoot commences again. Looking at the ace comedian, Polisetty Rambabu says, “Brahmanandam’s role is a surprise factor and one must feel the experience (of watching it) on the big screen. So I am not revealing now what it is like,” smiles the producer.

He has reasons to smile all the way to the bank too as director Raj Kapur has a track record of most successes among his 23 films in Tamil. “We were happy when he agreed to do the project. The film also imparts a message that in running for fame and fortune they should not neglect their aged parents. It may well be a turning point for Udaykiran’s career. Sathyaraj is in a powerful role as the father. Veteran fight master Vijayan is the villain and had no qualms in acting under another fights master Dinesh. Such is his simplicty.” Rambabu himself is an actor with Praja Natya Mandali portraying the role of Yadava a record 3,000 times in a play Palle Suddulu throughout Andhra Pradesh. And Lakshmiputhrudu is his second venture that he plans to release in September.
