Commemorating the 85th birth anniversary of the prolific short story writer, novelist and playwright , the late Rachakonda Viswanadha Sastry, popularly known as Raavisastry, almost all literary bodies in Vizag organised a photo exhibition and discurs
ive talks on some of his works in the premises of the Visakha Public Library last week.
He scripted more than 300 short stories and tens of novels besides a few plays like âNijamâ despite being an advocate by profession.
At the meeting held in the library with noted writer L.R. Swamy in the chair and editor of Andhra Prabha daily Mullapudi Sadasiva Sarma from Hyderabad, Chief Secretary of the Eskay Foundation Ramateertha explained how the pictures stand testimony to the unfathomable empathy and serene enthusiasm with which the late Sastry participated in social gatherings, cultural and literary meets.
Quoting excerpts from short stories Mosam and Manchi-Cheddalu, the novel Alpajeevi and the play Nijam, noted writers Ramasuri, Vemuganti Vasudeva Rao, Jagaddhatri, D. V Surya
Rao and D. Sahadeva Rao explicated how Rachakonda not only immortalised the dialect of the commonalty of North Andhra, making profound use of it in almost all his literary works but also pioneered a vista of explicitly revelatory analysis of social realism with utmost social conscience in it.
