Art aficionados are in for a treat as VamArt organises a group exhibition by renowned artistes at Vyloppilly Samskriti Bhavan. Titled ‘Convergence,’ the exhibition starts today. Featuring the works of artists from across the world, the ex
hibition is aimed at creating a common platform where artists share their concerns about environment and humanity, irrespective of geographical boundary, caste, creed or established religions.
And so you have each artists exposing their thoughts on the medium of his/her choice, a series of individualised statements showing the social and pictorial configurations which have cast an impression on them.
Nature as a muse
Nature often plays a muse to artists. The onslaught on Nature has palms and ponds acquiring a sacred look in Surendran’s works while Jyothilal in his metallic expressions show the nature of abode of living beings. The Eco-scape series of Robert Lopez is pink in colour with a childlike innocence of chromatic sensibility.
Across the world, the concept of abstract feeling of colour and form becomes a strong language. Both sculpture and painting show a strong affinity for elementary forms and non-attached art backgrounds. Hikaru Yumura from Japan shows the rhythmic existence of solidity and fluidity through ‘Origin 2007’ and ‘Squire Pillar.’ Ad Arma, a renowned Dutch modern artist, experiments with colours and transforms them into life and form.
Play of colours:Works by Ad Arma and C.N. Karunakaran.
As art is a vehicle of communication as well as a display of skills, its existence is complex. Jiro Inagaki from Japan shows his mastery over materials such as hand-made paper, metal plate, copper wire and even straw. The Japanese sensitivity of wagami-e method is masterly displayed.
K. Damodaran uses moss-like patches of colours, systematically colluding to create a kaleidoscopic effect with minimum hues to make it a melody of colours, while Ndidi Dike of Nigeria uses Egyptian-like figuration and hieroglyphic-like patterns in her works.
The exhibition will be on till August 22.
