The diamond jubilee of Sadguru Thyagaraja Gaana Nilayam and the eighth death anniversary of its founder, violinist S.R.V.Sharma provided the cause for a programme presented with devotional fervour under the presidency of J.S.Bhuvaneswaran, chief ca
rdiologist, P.S.G. hospitals, at Dr. T.V. Sivananda Memorial Hall, Tatabad, Coimbatore.
In his special address, musicologist Vaidyanathakrishnan spoke on the greatness of the compositions of saint Tyagaraja and called upon the younger generation of students to learn and practise music with commitment and devotion. Local music vidwans, K.V.Natarajan, K.S.Krishnamurthy, Kadayanallur Narayanan, Kannan Brothers and Palladam Ramachandran were honoured for their dedication to music and the growth and development of the school. The students of the Gaana Nilayam showcased their artistry on all the three days in their individual performances. Apart from the vocalists, Shyamsundar, Vignesh Raju, Sumedha, Sneha and Gowri gave their recitals on the Electronic Organ, drawing great acclaim from the rasikas.
