Vignesh Natarajan from the U.S. presented an enthralling vocal concert at the Sringeri Vidhyabarathi Bhavanam open-air auditorium, Srirangam, under the auspices of the Nadhadweepam Trust, Tiruchi.

Vignesh commenced the concert with a Bhairavi varnam, followed by the Tyagaraja kirtana, ‘Rama Bhakti’ in Suddha Bangala.

The songs that followed — Muthuswami Dikshitar’s ‘Sri Kanthimathim’ (Hemavathi), Syama Sastri’s ‘O Jagadamba’ (Ananda Bhairavi), Tyagaraja’s ‘Kanukontini’ (Bilahari — kept the audience interest alive. The highlight of the programme was the rendering of ‘Bajanaseya’ and ‘Bajaremaanasa,’ both composed by Mysore Vasudevachar in Dharmavati and Abheri respectively.

Natarajan, a resident of New Jersey and a regular participant at the Cleveland Tyagaraja festival in Ohio, U.S., wound up the show with Papanasam Sivan’s composition ‘Maaramanan’ set to Hindolam.

Natarajan was ably supported by T. H.Vasantha on the violin, Srirangam S. Madhusudhanan on the mridangam and Alathur T. Rajaganesh on the kanjira.
