Majestic movements

At 50, Gopala Acharya of Thirthahalli, still manages to mesmerise his audience as the young Abhimanyu with his sprightly movements.

Committed to his art, Gopala Acharya is deeply saddened by the changes in this ancient art. Even with his extreme fondness for mythologicals, he admits to the inevitability of social themes in yakshagana. His most sought after roles are Babruvahana, Sudhanva, Ravana and Abhimanyu.

The soft-spoken, Yakashagana artiste, will be performing in Bangalore on August 19, 2.30 p.m. at ADA Rangamandira.

This programme, organised by the Yakshagana Yogakshema Abhiyana Kendra, will feature Shri Krishna Sandhana and Karthaveeryaarjuna.
