Melody and beat meet
ENSEMBLE Krishna Raghavendra will perform with a team of other musicians
Academy of Music, Department of Kannada and Culture and the Karnataka State Pharmacy Council are hosting “When Melody meet Rhythm: Contemporary Indian and World Music” on August 18.
The evening will showcase “Raga and Rhythm Ensemble” (RARE) of Dr. Krishna Raghavendra. He will be playing the veena with Praveen Godkindi on the Hindustani bansuri, M.K. Pranesh on the carnatic flute, Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma on the mridangam and khanjira, Venugopalraju on the tabla and Arun Kumar on the western drums. This will be followed by Anook Ananthakrisha Sharma’s Laya Lahari Talavadya (percussion ensemble). The evening will also have a Carnatic-Jazz fusion, Megha, by Dr. Suma Sudhindra and Gerard Machado.
Dr. Krishna Raghavendra, an international performing artist, composer and producer of traditional and contemporary Indian music, is a veena virtuoso. His veena, made from red cedar wood which was custom-made, was further modified. He is the founder of the Ragha School of Music, an institution that promotes Indian music by way of workshops in schools, colleges and universities. He has released several original recordings and leads the “Raga and Rhythm Ensemble” (RARE).
