Over the years, special programmes on the small screen have become an integral part of celebrating Onam, the season of prosperity.
Amrita TV
Amrita TV brings its viewers a plethora of programmes this Onam. Those who have been watching the Super Dancer Show with bated breath will have eyes glued to the tube as the channel telecasts live the grand finale of the show on August 26. Join Yash, the child artiste, who won hearts with his performance in ‘Kazcha’ as he speaks about his life and ambition. Watch the movie for the day, ‘Lion,’ starring Dileep and Kavya Madhavan. Catch a glimpse of a day in the life of actor Jyothirmayi.
Spend the day with Suresh Gopi and his family on August 27. The Mohanlal-Padmapriya starrer ‘Vadakkumnathan’ will be the movie for the day. Meet Malavika and magician Sourav on ‘Hello Malavika.’
Those who want to test their knowledge of songs can do so on ‘Antakshari’ on August 26 and 27. ‘Samagamam’ on these two days will feature P. Jayachandran and Balachandra Menon respectively.
August 28 will be filled with music as the channel brings a live telecast of ‘Global Music Nite.’ Those who want innovative recipes to wow visitors should check the cookery show hosted by Raj Kalesh. ‘Arya’ is the movie screened on August 29. In addition to two films (‘Bharatchadran IPS’ and ‘Pandipada’), a close-up of filmmaker Priyadarshan is one of the attractions of Asianet’s Onam menu for viewers. The programmes on August 26 include a musical programme by Mohan Sitara, interviews with Harisree Ashokan, Padmaprirya, and Jayasurya and family. Kalabhavan Nawaz and team present a skit ‘Onam Masala.’
Kavya Madhavan greets viewers on August 27, on the day of Thiruonam. ‘Udayananu Tharum’ and ‘Rapakkal’ premiers on the telly. A chat between Jairam and Prabhu, and a jugalbandhi featuring K.S. Chitra and Sujatha promise to keep families riveted to the programmes. A plethora of comedy shows like ‘Mimics Action 90’ and ‘Suraj Venjaramoodu in Venjaramoodu’ have also been included. Sreekantan Nair interviews Mohanlal on that day.

Kairali Channel’s celebrations from August 25 to 28 begins with ‘Onapattukal’ in the mornings. This is followed by a walk down memory lane with Vishnu Narayanan Namboothiri, Vinaya Chandran, KPAC Lalitha, Kavalam and Onakoor. ‘Sangeetha Pookalam’ has Mohan Sitara, Johnson Master, MG Radhakrishnan, Ouseapachan and Kavalam Sreekumar speaking on their music.
Join the stars in ‘Thara Sallapam.’ ‘Varnolsavam’ has behind-the- scenes action of the latest and upcoming flicks, a chat with stars, and its makers.
Try out the favourite recipes of the glitterati in ‘Star Cookery.’ Movie buffs have ‘Thenkasipattanam’ on August 25, ‘Ananda Bhairavi’ on August 26, ‘Chanthupottu’ on August 27, ‘Thommanum Makkulam’ on August 28 and ‘Company’ on August 29. ‘Chocolates’ promises a date with the stars.
People
People has a special programme on classical music on August 26 and 27. ‘Time Machine’ on August 26 will have viewers in splits as mimicry artistes take the stage.
The highlight of the following day is ‘Ponanathumbikal,’ a music programme. August 28 has ‘Richa Sarma Show’ and ‘Symphony Mega Show.’ A special feature on Sree Narayana Guru is on on August 29.
Surya TV
Surya TV’s three-day Onam programmes on 27, 28 and 29 promise to keep viewers glued to the telly. Joining the celebrations would be a bevy of actors that include Navya Nair, Padmapriya, Vimala, Samvratha Sunil, Remya Nambeeshan, Muktha, Gopika and Priyanka. Meet the real persons as the actors peel of their reel personalities.
Playback singers Shwetha and Srinivasan provide a musical interlude while director Lohitadas talks about his adventures in Mollywood. Star couples Jairam and Parvathy, and Kaveri and Suresh Krishna share their festivities with the viewers. Villain-turned-comedian Cochin Haneefa takes a walk down memory lane on the sets of his latest Tamil film.
‘The Making of ‘Ore Kadal’ has film director Shyama Prasad, producer Vindhyan, and actors Mammootty, Naren and Remya Krishnan talking about the film. Tune in to ‘Thara Ishtangal’ to find out the favourite songs of actors. Comedies, skits, folk songs and dances, and rural games are some of the other highlights of Surya TV’s programme menu.
Another attraction would be the five films – ‘Rajamanikyam,’ ‘Kilukam, Kilukillukam,’ ‘Pataka,’ ‘Loknathan IAS’ and ‘Police’ – that would be telecast over the three days.
The blockbuster Mammootty-starrer ‘Rajamanikyam’ is being premiered on television. Mohanlal, Kunchacko Boben, Jayasurya and Kavya Madhavan star in ‘Kilukam, Kilukillukam.’ ‘Pathaka,’ directed by K. Madhu, has Suresh Gopi and Navya Nair in the lead. Kalabhavan Mani plays the protagonist in ‘Loknathan IAS’ while Prithivraj and Bhavana play the lead in ‘Police.’
