WELL-TRAINED: Students of Swaramanjari performing dance.

The second annual day function of Swarnamuhurtham, organised by Swaramanjari Institution for Music and Dance, was a compendium of colourful events in which talented children and artistes trained by the institute presented Bharatanatyam and western da nce items at Mani High School, to a packed audience.

The obeisance to Lord Vinayaka at the start of the function was followed by a vibrant presentation by Divya, portraying the five elements of the earth in the creation of the universe in ‘Om Namasivaya’.

‘Theeradha Vilayattuppillai,’ Bharatiar’s song in ragamalika, displayed clarity of Meenakshi’s footwork.

The song, ‘Backstreet Boys’ drew wide applause for the nimble twists and rhythmic movements of the artistes — Praveen and his partners. The snake dance by Aparna was a grand spectacle.

The next item was a group dance, ‘Ayigiri Nandini,’ offering homage to Goddess Durga.

The latter part of the function was a tribute to Mahakavi Bharatiar.

Select semi-classical songs sung mellifluously by Divya and Mohandas took the audience on a nostalgic trip.

The video clippings from the revolutionary poet’s life enabled the audience to appreciate the contribution of Tamil Nadu in the freedom struggle.

Kudos to Sundararajan, anchor, for his profound knowledge and analysis of Bharatiar’s poems.
