Jugalbandi

Tamil Maiyam is organising a jugalbandi, by Bombay Jayashri and Shubha Mudgal at the Music Academy on August 30, 6.30 p.m. The programme is in aid of Give Life, a project jointly promoted by Shriram Social Welfare Trust and Tamil Maiyam, which aims to provide educational support to poor, deprived children. Festival

The Oothukadu Venkatakavi Academy Trust (Ph: 2464 2664), Mylapore, is organising a six-day music and dance festival from September 28 to October 3 at the Dakshinamurthi auditorium in commemoration of the 307th birth anniversary of Venkata Subbaiyer. The Trust will also conduct vocal and flute competitions on September 30 at the venue. Children aged between 6 and 17 years may participate. The programme includes musical discourses by Alamelu Dr. Subaraman and Kousalya Sivakumar, concerts by several musicians and dance.

RTP series

Saraswathi Vaggeyakkara Trust has organised a ‘Ragam Thanam Pallavi Series’ from August 29-31 at Narada Gana Sabha Mini Hall, in which sub-senior artistes will present their manodharma. Each artiste will be given a slot of one-and-a-half hours, and the raga and tala will vary for each artiste. The schedule is: C. Gurucharan (Dharmavathi, Aug.29, 6 p.m.), T.V.Sundaravalli (Keeravani, 7.30 p.m.); K. Gayathri (Charukesi, Aug.30, 6 p.m.), Mohan Santhanam (Nattakurinji, 7.30 p.m.); Prasanna Venkatraman (Khambodi, Aug. 31, 6 p.m.) and Lakshmi Rangarajan (Sankarabharanam, 7.30 p.m.).

Temple festival

Sri Oppiliappan Pattabhisheka Ramar Kainkarya Samithi, Ramnagar, Madipakkam, is celebrating the annual festival (Avathara Dina Mahotsavam) till August 30 at the temple, Ram Nagar (North), Madipakkam. A swarna ratna kireetam will be offered to the deity on August 26, 6 p.m. Concerts are scheduled for the evening, 6.30 p.m. daily: Aug. 28 – N. Harish, N. Ragul; Aug. 29 – Jothy Kamath; Aug. 30 K. Remembering NSK

To commemorate N.S.Krishnan’s golden jubilee, Priya Vision has organised a programme on August 30 at Dakshinamurthy Auditorium, Mylapore. Veterans including Manorama, M,N,Rajam, Sachu, Muktha Srinivasan, Saroja Thangavelu, ARS, Lakshmanan (Humour Club), Arandai Manian and Raadhu will speak on the occasion, interspersed with film clippings featuring N.S.Krishnan’s comedy scenes.
