The exhibition will feature work from his series ‘Bull and Beyond,’ which evoke meditative poses of bovine creatures rendered in earthy hues.
A self-taught artist, A.V. Ilango, a postgraduate in Mathematics, made his debut in 1973.
Inspired by his childhood memories, he set off with a colourful palette. The artist vividly recalls those scenes on his canvas.
Later he moved to Madurai. The architectural and sculptural splendour of Madurai temples fascinated him and this was reflected in his canvas too. Each of his series of paintings bear witness to his evolution as an artist and philosopher. Colours, moods, strokes and subject reflect this evolution.
Besides human figure, the artist has been fascinated by cows and bulls.
According to him, cows and bulls form the very idiom of primitive, folk and classical arts of India. In everyday life, it is used as beast of burden and for transport, sport, manure, hide and food. Many sketches and paintings bring out the subtle harmony in these compositions.
