Story of Krishna

Dance and theatre: The all-Kalakshetra group.

Shijith Nambiar, an old student of Kalakshetra where he is now a faculty member, will present his first group production that he has choreographed. ‘Krishna,’ featuring a team of 12 dancers, all students of Kalakshetra, will be staged at Kalakshetra’s Koothambalam on September 11. The show was premiered in Kuwait last May. “My main source of inspiration has been the work of Rukmini Devi,” says Shijith Nambiar. “The story of Lord Krishna is woven through popular melodies like ‘Krishna Nee Begane,’ and ‘Govardhana Giridhara.’ Bharatanatyam and a few theatrical aspects are blended to enhance the kritis,” he adds.
