Love lyric
Kalyanapuram Aravamudachariar, in a series of Krishnanubhava Lectures, held at the Mylapore Fine Arts Club, communicated the experiences of Jayadeva, Andal, Periyazhvar, and Narayana Tirtha and Prahlada. Srinivasa Kalyanam and Rukmini Kalyanam also found mention. Jayadeva, Aravamudachariar said, had mastery of the Sanskrit language and the theme apparently was the love-lyric of Radha and Krishna, but actually was symbolic of the soul’s craving to unite with God. To underline the fact that these compositions permit raga-flexibility Aravamudachariar used as many as 20 ragas, which included a few videshi tunes. The way he linked the episodes with the kritis of the Trinity was interesting. It was with great feeling that he spoke of how unfinished verse of Jayadeva was said to have been completed by Krishna. Dr. Hemalatha responded with enchanting raga portrayals and A.S.Ranganathan’s mridangam provided support in the right measure.
