Kalakshetra’s annual festival of music and dance begins today. The three-day event, held in collaboration with Alapana Trust, will be a tribute to Sankara Menon, in commemoration of his 100th birthday. Each day will feature a music concert at
6 p.m. followed by a Bharatanatyam performance at 7.30 p.m. Malavika Sarukkai, Alarmel Valli, and Priyadarsini Govind will be the artists to be featured.
The festival commences today with a vocal concert by Priya Sisters on followed by ‘Mohana Krishna’ presented by Malavika Sarukkai.
The evening of September 15 begins with a veena recital by E. Gayathri, followed by Alarmel Valli’s Bharatanatyam recital. The festival concludes on September 16 with a vocal concert by T.V.Sankaranarayanan followed by Bharatanatyam by Priyadarsini Govind.
All performances will take place at the Koothambalam, the circular theatre located inside the Kalakshetra campus in Thiruvanmiyur.
