Power-packed performance An artiste performing ‘Harikadha’.

The 144th jayanthi of Adibhatla Narayana Das, a legendary exponent of Harikadha who had fluent command over more that 10 languages including some foreign, a veena player and scholar, was celebrated fittingly for three days at Sri Seetarama Kalyana Mandapam, Vijayawada, by scores of Prasishyas. Narayana Das’s versatility was unequalled and produced in traditional gurukula system, a large number of disciples who in their turn produced scores of Harikadha bhagavatars.

The first day’s programme was dedicated to Late Neti Lakshminarayana Bhagavatar, a prime disciple of Narayana Das and a great exponent of Harikadha ganam. In memory of their father the sons of Lakshminarayana bhagavathar instituted a cash award to be given annually to an eminent Bhagavathar. This year the award was presented through Burra Sivaramakrishna Bhagavatar to H.S. Bramhanandam, a scholar, Harikadha bhagavathar and a professor in Sri Krishnadevaraya University of Anantapur. A special feature in the first day’s programme was a fine Harikadha rendered by Chandu Bhaskara Rao bhagavathar who was made up as Adibhatla Narayana Das.

In tribute to the Harikadha Pitamaha, Harikadhas were rendered on all three days by bhagavatars Parankusam Satyavati (Tenali), Dega Venkatasubbiah (Nellore), Dhulipala Sivaramakrishna (Guntur), P. Vijayalakshmi (Kapileswarapurm), Pendem Dharma Rao (Kakinada), Chirra Bramhananda Reddy (Talluru), K. Sarada (Tadepalligudem) M. Simhachala Sastri and Vijayakumari (Tirupathi), T. Lakshmana Sastri (Vijayawada), Neti Venkataramana (Hyderabad) and Kota Sachidananda Sastri.

The three-day programme was a sumptuous feast for the lovers of Harikadhas.
