Waiting for another spring

M L NARASIMHAM

The remake of Tarun’s debut Tamil movie is mission possible.

Pals in trouble Actress Priyamani and Tarun in Navva Vasantham.

Seems arrangements are being made for some live telecast on the sets in Sarathy Studios as a TV crew is parked there with their equipment. A close look revealed that even they are part of the set up as cinematographer Sarvesh Murari is guiding them t o the right position while his assistant checks the light and the camera unit assemble the semi circular trolley.

All this hungama is to shoot the climax portions for Nava Vasantham. A remake of the Tamil film, Punnagai Desam, made five years ago by director Shahjahan is retained for the Telugu version. At a corner the director is spotted talking to the actors – Kota Srinivasa Rao, ’Ahuti’ Prasad, Bharani, Sudha, Sakunthala and Sana about the scene. In another corner the film’s hero Tarun, lead actors Akash, Rohit and Sunil have a chat while the heroines Priyamani and Ankitha sit alongside amusedly. There are also a host of other key players in the movie. “ It is a feel good film on family, friendship, love and parental guidance and a message too," says R.B. Chowdhary. "A lighter vein runs all through the film making it an enjoyable fare. It is a huge hit when we made it in Tamil and also Tarun’s first Tamil film as a hero. He is on a mission to the city and how he helps three of his friends achieve their goals is the crux of the theme."

The shooting begins. The cameraman wanted ’all lights’ and the set glows. Sarevesh’s assistant cameraman guides the men holding the reflectors to cut the light on to the actors in that particular block. From a distance the dialogues are inaudible but seem some kind of a debate is taking place between the elders and their wards. Watching Tarun N. V Prasad says, "Tarun has put in excellent work and it will be a comeback film for him. Sunil is at his best in a comic role that he hasn’t done so far. So are Rohit and Akash. All the four characters harbour different ambitions start from scratch and with dedication reaches the pinnacle in their chosen professions, inspiring roles."

With the talkie portions coming to a close and four songs already canned, the remaining two will be shot on Tarun and Priyamani probably in New Zealand. Shahjahan is pleased to get the right actors for the roles as he revealed during the break. Tarun hopes that it will be one more memorable movie in his career and is happy to don the grease paint after a brief hiatus for a role he enjoyed playing to the hilt. The break is over. The actors and the crew assemble for the next shot. The ‘TV unit’ too assembles along with them. Are they going to show a live telecast in the movie of some important event, the climax, the question still lingers . The film is slated for an October-November release.
