National Film Festival begins on October 3

Bouquet of films: ‘Parzania’ is one of the movies screened for the festival.

It is back and with a rich repertoire of films. The annual National Film festival organised by Kerala State Chalachitrakala Akademi will be held at Kollam this year.

On from October 3 to October 7, the festival will be divided into four segments.

The first is a retrospective on this year’s Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner, Shyam Benegal, which focusses on his early works.

Contemporary films

Contemporary Indian and Malayalam films will be screened as part of the festival. ‘Parzania’ will be the movie that opens the Contemporary Indian section.

‘Driskantham,’ ‘Thakarachenda,’ ‘Saira’ and ‘Notebook’ are some of the films in the Contemporary Malayalam segment.

A bouquet of movies by Indian women directors is a highlight of the festival. ‘Honeymoon Travels,’ ‘Ammu’ and ‘Mitr-my friend’ are some of the movies in this package.

Apart from movies, various forums and seminars will be held as part of the festival. According to the director of the Kerala Chalachitra Akademi, K.P. Mohanan, Rahul Dholakia, Sarika and T.V. Chandran are some of the dignitaries who will be participating in the event.

The festival is being organised at three venues - Dhanya-Muthoot Mini Theatres, Kadapakkada Sports Club and Swaralaya Auditorium. Passes will be available at Kadapakkada Sports Club from September 27. Bring a passport-sized photograph along.
