Engaging violin recital

The two brothers gave a memorable performance.

Sri Vijaya Thyagaraja Sangeetha Sabha featured a violin recital by brothers K.Venkataram and K. Subbarao of Hosahalli (Karnataka) at Sri Sankara Matham recently. It was the second in the series of monthly music concerts organised by the Sabha commemorating the birth centenary year of violin maestro, the late Dwaram Narasingarao Naidu (former Professor in violin and Principal, M.R. Government College of Music and Dance, Vizianagaram). Ably accompanied on mridangam by local artiste G. Venkata Rao and ghatam by S. Hanumantha Rao of Tadepalligudem, the brothers, after playing a varnam of their renowned guru Lalgudi G. Jayaraman in Valaji, continued their recital rendering Sri Mahaganapathim (Sourashtram) with swaram, Sriraga Pancharatna kriti, Teliyaleru Rama (Dhenuka) and Brochevarevarura (Khamas) of Thyagaraja . The adornments of aalapana and swaram to the compositions in dhenukaand khamas helped in bringing out the devout fervour embedded in them. After rendering popular compositions like Kadhanakutuhala kriti Raghuvamsa and Samajavanagamana (Hindolam), they made a laudable effort in presenting a well knit ragam tanam and pallavi in Shanmukhapriya. Venkatarao and Hanumantharao executed an equally adept thani that contributed to the grandeur. Secretary of the sabha, Durvasula Bhaskaramurty felicitated the artistes.
