Navaratri special concerts

Navarathiri Shubharathiri to be aired on Vijay TV from today at 6.30 p.m.daily.

Conceived by Churchill Pandian, ‘Navarathiri Shubharathiri,’ a devotional Carnatic music performance by popular artistes, will be telecast on Vijay TV from today. The musicians perform in a specially created ambience, meticulously planned to the last detail. The gleaming brass lamps, earthen diyas and the care taken to see that they burn steadily without running short of oil and the tastefully decorated background will all speak of care and involvement.

The nine-day programme will feature hymns extolling Goddesses Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswathi. The event will be aired daily from 6.30 p.m. It is neither a live telecast nor a public performance. So what do the celebrities think about it? Aruna Sairam - TV programmes always have a reach and millions will be viewing this on all the nine days. This will elevate us and remind us of the richness of our tradition and culture and how intact it is. It is truly an act of reinforcement and reinvention. I was really caught by the ambience.

Shoba Chandrasekhar - This will be a hit and there will be more of this kind. I have made it a samarpanam and included a variety of songs.

Sudha Raghunathan - This is tailor-made for Navaratri and the ambience seems quite natural. I am happy about the line-up of songs with different flavours, kritis belonging to various time frames, in Tamil. All of this is meticulously done and all performances are by artistes of high calibre.

Sowmya - Everything about this is so auspicious (‘mangalakaram’). I am happy to be a participant.

Nithyashree - In what better way can one celebrate Navaratri? This is an opportunity for us to render songs in praise of Goddess Devi and many would have the chance to listen to these soul-stirring songs right from their homes.

Gayathri Girish – Compositions of Papanasam Sivan would be the mainstay, naturally - and it could be a kind of a sing-along when it is telecast. The concerts should be preserved and telecast on all festival days.

Playback singers Mahathi and Saindhavi have made their contributions too. Mahathi has included a fine piece on Mahakali and Saindhavi a rare kriti of Papanasam Sivan.

And for the Airtel super singers, Deepthi, Aparna and Dhanyashree, they have been provided a platform which would take them further.

Sharada Nambi Aaruraan, known for her devotional discourses, will speak about all the famous temples and the Goddesses touching upon the significance of celebrating Navaratri.
