Music to the ears

Dwaram V.K.G Thyagaraj impressed the gathering with his pleasing recital.

Melodic best Dwaram Thyagaraj absorbed in the rendition of a raga

Visakha Music and Dance Academy, which organises two concerts of classical music every month, featured a vocal recital by Dwaram V.K.G. Thyagaraj last Saturday at its auditorium Kalabharati. Accompanied on violin by M. Neeladri Rao and mridangam by M . Edukondalu, he got off to an absorbing start that was marked with intense clarity in intoning the musical and lyrical phraseology of the Sahana varnam he chose.

He sustained the same tenor in rendering Siddhivinayakam (Chamaram) and Vandeham Jagadvallabham (Hamsadhvani), both prefixed and suffixed with invigorating aalapana and swaram in the two speed cycles. The rendering of the Sriraga Pancharatna kriti Endaromahaanubhavulu of Thyagaraja surfacing all nuances of sublime expression embedded in the sahitya and the corresponding swaraksharas of the notation stood hailed as exemplary. Sustaining and extending the fervour further, he elaborated Samajavaragamana (Hindolam) after enchantingly rendering Evaruraninuvina (Mohana) and Sivasiva Anaraada (Pantuvarali) both adorned with knowledgeably knit aalapana and swaram.

Neeladrirao and Edukondala proved to be his peers sustaining the gusto in their following and turns as well.

The tail piece of the concert comprised compositions of Annamayya and Ramadas.

Noted exponent of carnatic vocal S. Vasundharadevi, who was guest of honour, felicitated the artistes while VMDA Committee member Dr. P.V.C. Sarma introduced them.
